Apparently, apart from Eurovision, the Georgians are also very serious about their food. The Ex-Soviet country is well known within Eastern Europe for it’s culinary feats, and now there are more and more Georgian restaurants sprouting up in London. My husband and I decided to try “Little Georgia”, which is around the corner from Broadway market.
Little Georgia has a relaxed and elegant café feel and it was full to the rafters for Sunday lunch.
Our order of Pelmeni and beef blini was taken by our nice enough waitress, who seemed to be a bit rushed off her feet. Both my husband and I had actually both wanted to order the much anticipated pelmeni, a type of fresh dumpling made with a thin unleavened dough, stuffed with minced meat and served in a chicken broth. However, we decided that I should get the beef blini, so that we could try a selection of things. I’m glad I got the blini because the pelmeni was disappointingly average. The dumpling shells were too thick and doughy and the chicken broth was bland. My beef blini on the other hand was better: the beef was nicely seasoned, and there was a generous dollop of sour cream as well as a side of delicately spiced fried mushrooms & onions. It was ok but not amazing.

To try and be positive, I do think that Little Georgia has a lot of character, and the fact that it’s so close to Broadway market makes me think I will be back. However, I think my return trip will just be for coffee and cake. Saying that, our neighbour had the “Little Georgia” salad, which looked very appetising..
